Replying to @strnglft
asymptote is a mathematical concept of getting closer and closer, but not reaching picture an airplane in a dive that starts to pull up before crashing ... but never pulls FULLY level. 100 feet 50 feet 25 feet 10 feet 5 feet 4 feet 3.5 feet never hits zero

The asymptote is the thing that is never reached. If the plane keeps appoaching 10 above the ground, 10 feet is the asymptote. If I keep adding to my novel but never QUITE finish it, a finished novel is the asymptote.
