Basically this, to be honest, is part of why I started art, and it's definitely not wrong. My half-formed theory is that: despite actually being basically a Sensitive Artist Type, I was never great at doing so performatively. In marketing terms there's not much exposure/

that was in fact my guess you don't seem...broody enough. also, you seem to have too much of an analytical / driven / engineer-like approach to life. Which likely makes you more successful than average at making and SELLING art! ...but Artist is not the same thing as Artist™

I think you've basically seen me. I'm happy with the way Young Me made decisions like, "I want to have an Abroad Experience and do romantic early-20s travel stuff; better get a job & do skill-building that's compatible with that" but it puts me in an interstitial social space

my own strategy (if we can elevate "flailing and failing bc of innate tendencies" to "strategy") was : "be totally autistic / STEM / INTJ, which no woman wants at all ... until age 35, at which point I've got a clue and a place in life, and women change at that age"

That must have been a rough play til it transitioned, but it certainly worked out in the long game, and I'm happy for you! I was doing things like hosting small wine nights, etc, to try to give myself a bit more social exposure, but, well, ::gestures vaguely at everything::

Allow me to say you do seem the sensitive artist type, and that's part of the problem. People say "sensitive artist" when they mean "passionate and demanding". You can wear emotions on the sleeve if they are the right emotions. Actual care is frowned upon in the dating world.

That also seems plausible enough. In terms of being a sensitive artist type, well, this song was not written about me:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kc2iLAubras&ab_channel=smeetie1 …

Makes sense. What I found helpful was to realize I was getting the cart before the horse. Adjusting who I was internally helped me, as well as God blessing me in many ways I did not realize at the time.

both becoming a better / more interesting person AND engineering more contacts (e.g. wine nights) are important

Gotta have a product, but gotta make people aware that you have a product.

What's the classic startup entrepreneur problem? There are two types, the engineer or the salesman who see a need and go to fill it. The sales guy sells before he has product, the engineer doesn't sell the product he made because "it's not good enough".
