I find it frankly appalling that in general, the “elite” response to seeing that society is so complex that a huge number of people can’t cope with it is to encourage additional highly-targeted regulations and subsidies that just exacerbate the issue.

I picked up the self help packet for simple divorces from our clerk's office just to see what it said. It was 35 pages long, had samples that could not be typed on, and was not clear at all about certain steps. I prepared divorce docs routinely for work and I couldn't follow it.

I live in this weird universe where I am +3SD in IQ and -1 or 2 SD in conscientiousness. I'll pay the ticket at the absolute last minute. And I'll disobey lesser rules if I feel I can get away with them. And I'll rules-lawyer my way around shit if caught.
