1/ I think about this a lot. I personally excel at this, and it's a competitive advantage to effortlessly navigate zoning codes, self employment laws, IP laws, etc. ...but I have nothing but sympathy for the -1 SD Shaniquas and Bubbas out therehttps://twitter.com/drethelin/status/1305509468269146112 …

3/ Or Bubba is in the mood to go fishing, so he does. But doesn't have a fishing license AND he pulled out four fish, but the limit on species X is just three unless you have a class 2 license and are in a type R river OR it's after 4 Sep How in hell can we get mad at these ppl

4/ I'm dealing w this w my neighbor right now. I WISH he wouldn't build an illegal building, violating the zoning code. I WISH he didn't have 12 non functioning cars, violating the unlicensed junkyard code. I WISH his attack dog hadn't escaped and bit my dog ($500 damage)

A friend refers to misdemeanor court as “Courts of Irresponsibility.” The people who wrote misdemeanor laws are encouraged to be responsible (deterred from being irresponsible) by the prospect of relatively minor but still impactful penalties. They cannot grasp why others aren’t.

Or, worse, they understand the top level, and not that there's forty layers of bullshit obscured under it. "I showed you proof of insurance on my phone!" "Sorry, ma'am, that might work in your home county, but we can't accept anything but a printout until Feb next year."
-
"If you say the right things to the judge in person, they might drop it, though." "That's three weeks from now, I'll have this hovering over my shoulder the whole time. Can you tell me what the right things are?" "..."
