1/ It is INSANE the way these guys hustle. I've done each of the four jobs here (dropping trees, limbing trees, carrying brush, digging). I remember reading something about how the challenge with the athletes on the tour de france (or some other marathon cycling thing) is finding ways to get enough calories in them, fast enough.

I know someone who walked to the north pole, pulling supplies. They ate sticks of butter at a time in order to keep up on calories.

When I was 20 I biked a TON, and I remember an entire pizza for lunch was a pretty common meal. Sometimes even left me hungry, would bum extra slices off my friends. I'm sure these guys burn more fuel than I did.
