A lot of people have not met a low-functioning schizophrenic (except for short street interactions from homeless ones, which they mistake for someone "down on their luck").

I have met violent, mentally ill people, and substance abusers first-hand. The state wants these people on the street so they can force you to cough up more taxes to "help" them. They are never helped. The street accumulates more of them as a result of their "loving" programs.

I wonder how much of the mental illness is related to the Dunning-Kruger effect. A kid with Downs Syndrome doesn't think he/she is too good for a low skill job.
