Can confirm. My son and I both box competitively and our upper middle class friends switch between the surprised/offended/shocked “oh my god” look and “how sad/what a pity” look, when I talk about it.

That's such a weird way of thinking to me because it's a moralistic judgement which I have no shared basis of culture to understand why they get there.
