I hate taxes, but "50%" drastically overstates it. Assume an income of $100k. 4/ However, that 17.3% includes employer contribution. And we can discuss how, sure, ALL taxes are, at some level born by citizens, but for actual-recorded-income, we're looking at 7.6% up to $132k. So running total is up to 33% or so.
