The crazy thing is the 80s gave us some of the most fuel-efficient vehicles ever made without any particularly advanced tech or being forced by the governement simply because the market demanded it.

For me, personally, getting my 6'6" body up and down out of a sedan got downright painful on my knees, hips, back. My CX-5's seat is pretty much at butt level, so I don't get up/down, just slide in. And it still gets pretty good mileage.

Yup. Mom had an 18MPG minivan, I rented a 35MPG SUV to leave NYC. A *good* sedan might get 45 and doesn't come with cargo space. And since cars are expensive enough you only get one... must be most-purpose.
