Slowly working out the mythology for NIGHTLAND RACER. World-ending disaster caused by a Pythagorean cult that tried to restart the sun, but accidentally destroyed it and summoned an entity from nether dimensions to replace it. The entity takes the form of a hideous anti-star.

The anti-star feeds vampirically on the Earth. It warps time and space so that people caught in its gravity well experience an eternity of torment as they fall in. Protag has to figure out how to collapse the anti-star with a nuke. Not so easy when it takes eternity to reach it.

He needs something like Zelazny's mechanical horse that travels twice the distance with each step. Trying to find something equivalent in real-world mythology.

The Pythagoreans had a weird pre-Gnostic theology. The first thing that came into existence was the Monad, which begat the dyad, which begat the numbers, which begat the point, which begat the lines, which begat the higher geometrical forms.

I'm picturing the anti-star giving birth to sentient geometrical forms that reproduce with each other to form new, mutant geometries. The protag has to track down the rarest of the forms, a living asymptote that contains infinity.

There's an old SF story that posits that the word "angels" in the Bible was a typo, and the original word was "angles." Still working out the details. Hopefully the result will be spectacularly weird.

Maybe a Gnostic seer had a vision of the Nightland and his audience misheard the Latin "angulus" as the Greek "angelos." A lot of SF writers play with Gnostic themes, but I'd like to do a more honest take that portrays the Gnostics as misguided lunatics and occultists.

The cuneiform symbols for "angle hook" and "ghost" or "demon" are similar. I think Mr. Wood may be on to something... http://mugsarsumerian.com/default.htm  You'd have to compare them in the original antediluvian cuneiform to be sure, of course.pic.twitter.com/heV4tH0zSb

Nice find! Sometimes I get lucky and stumble across some arcane bit of information that fits.
