Yes, but I think I'd resent the "invite-only" aspect of it. It reeks of exclusivity, although I understand how hard it is to curate an online forum and associated group culture.

I disagree. I see it as the lesser evil in some situations (like perhaps this one), but can't think of a scenario in which it's good in itself. Can you give an example? Perhaps I haven't thought this through.

Open fora have their place and I love them (eg: twitter) but closed fora are necessary for more deliberate matters
