"Felony conspiracy to destroy monument" and "felony destruction of a monument"? ...seriously? ...if a "violent mob", was anybody hurt? Or was it just the feelings of people who like the monument?

I have no problem with destruction of property being a felony. It sets the incentives correctly, if nothing else. This isn't a starving person who stole one apple.

I'm OK with protesters tearing down monuments that honor those who fought for a viciously pro-slavery government. To me, having a monument to such people very much sets incentives incorrectly.

I have a hard time seeing imprisonment or a felony conviction as appropriate punishment for injury to property. I have good reasons for this. But I'd rather talk about them on DM than in a public forum, as a courtesy to my parents.

I don't see punishment as a goal with ANY law. I see incentives as the goal.
