2/ The year is 1950, Cthulhu is real, and every single white person in the world is an evil murderous bastard, probably with Klan robes in his closet. Except the author, Matt Ruff, who is absolved of White Original Sin bc he's woke. Https://twitter.com/AnCapKid/status/1295095348663287811 …

3/ And politics aside, it's not even a good story. I enjoyed Ruff's Fool on The Hill, and Sewer, Gas, and Electric , even tho politics intrude. Lovecraft Country was a bland author-insert Ready Player One that doesn't even do justice to the source material. Sad.

It's pretty despicable to see people disparage old scifi for being racist or sexist when scifi has always been a force for progress and change. Of course it's going to be outdated at some point, but it's still almost always ahead of ideas contemporary with its publish date.

Popular scifi has always had to walk a line between not being too out there to be dismissed immediately, while also being forward thinking enough to push people out of their comfort zones.
