I'm picturing a bidding war between the guy who collects pocket knives and the guy who collects fountain pens Pocket Knife Guy wins, then puts the whole thing minus the knives back on ebay What's the record for how many times a single junk drawer gets resold

I know of a seller who makes a full time living selling postcards. Generally the smart money avoids auctions though. Things this obscure never generate a bidding war bc the two bidders rarely find it at the same time.

EBay is amazing. Did I ever tweet about the time I sold a pack of 10 diapers from the 1980s for $150 (they sold instantaneously after listing).

Since I've been following the poker chip market recently, I've seen posts (on the collectors' forum, where they know what things are worth) where someone finds an ebay listing putting up some old chips they found in grampa's attic and listing them for a fraction of their worth

The forum members bitch and fight over who gets to grab the hot opportunity first There's protocols around whether you let people know about it vs. grabbing it yourself vs. stealing someone else's find It's a very serious political topic

"we're special, we look out for one another - so if you see a find but aren't interested yourself [there are specialists] bring it to everyone's attention so someone here can benefit from it" Which leads to calling dibs, because "that's fair" +
