For instance I gave the contents of our fridge to an extremely grateful acquaintance - she’s an event planner and her husband is a chef, they met working at a restaurant that has now permanently closed. They have 2 kids about the ages of mine and they are so screwed financially

No events to plan for a year (or more), fall cancellations still rolling in. Good luck finding a new chef job. She took even a bunch of open stuff, I was happy to help but man.

Our previous apartment was intolerable after baby 3. We knew about pandemic thanks to nerds, and were concerned, but it seemed impossible that they would fucking cancel NYC for 6+ months and then let it rot to decades-ago status immediately
