AFAICT, pretty much everyone not New Zealand/Taiwan/Vietnam ends up at the exact same maintenance quasi-lockdown level, and the question is total death toll. There is no broad "economy/disease" tradeoff. And even New Zealand apparently got hit again so woops!

Now in practice, there's tradeoffs within "maintenance" (Church, bars, schools, pick one) and European poverty->lack of A/C plus street culture is giving them a fairly lazy summer.... and yet.

I've heard this reasoning before, though not in so many words. Basic idea is we endure absolute shit for 6 weeks (or however long it takes), but then everything returns to normal afterwards. This line of thought is all over reddit.
