2/ Almost no excellent authors write books or newsletters, or offer courses on how to write. Many bad ones do. This is a bit of a mystery.

3/ I could imagine Dunning Krueger. Lack of ability to discern the difference between one's own garbage and good writing might motivate both publishing crap, and the idea "I'm great at this; I should share my secrets!"

This, I think, is key. Greats concentrate on the delta between how they are and perfection, and see nothing but flaws. Inverse for garbage tier.
