I'm genuinely unaware of any research done on the matter, but purely anecdotally my mood is way worse when my seasonal allergies are acting up and that seems to hold true across the people I interact with as well

It’s a reasonable hypothesis. A quick Google search pulls up quite a few research articles on elevated cortisol levels and anger response; similarly there is research to indicate that allergy attacks drive up cortisol levels, which later causes a cortisol crash.
