I recently read (and very much enjoyed!) Mahaffey's _Atomic Accidents_. It's a great book, going into remarkable detail on a wide variety of historical events, without sucking the spirit or interest from even the smaller occurrences. But he miscounts corpses, at least twice.

(Specifically, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1950_British_Columbia_B-36_crash … is described as "Every crew member made it back alive"; https://scalar.usc.edu/works/brokenarrowproject/1950---lebanon-ohio … as "... the 15 men on board were obliterated." And to be fair, the latter one did have a paperwork snafu that meant it took a bit for the USAF to count 'em.))
