Chickens lay 1.5 eggs/day on average. 20 people each eating 2 eggs per day require ~26-30 chickens. We fit about this many, easy, into a 12x12 coop, with access to a 30' x 30' outdoor area. This is quite doable on a low budget, and without that much space. https://twitter.com/octal/status/1288892777074511878 …

2/ raising for meat is easy too. 20 people - how many meat chickens do you want per person per interval? 2? That's 40 chickens - you could fit them into the same coop w the others, and the same outdoor run. It's the PROCESSING that's a hassle, tho... https://twitter.com/octal/status/1288893324863168512 …

3/ Chickens are slaughtered at ~ 14 weeks, so that means a steady state inventory of 2 x 14 x 20 = ~ 500, with new chicks arriving by mail every week or two or 40, and bulk processing on the same schedule. Need ~4 ft^2 / chicken in barn = 2,000 ft^2 https://twitter.com/octal/status/1288893897041641472 …

I think that labor / calorie is lower, the larger the animal is. Getting the feathers off a chicken is hard. Gutting 100 chickens is harder than gutting 1 cow.
