6/ I dunno. It would be nice to love what I do, but it seems that the stress that comes from measuring onessself against very high standards makes "loving your work" fairly implausible. "Mood's a thing for cattle and loveplay" and all that.

7/ What I love doing is reading good science fiction, eating sushi, and playing board games. ...but there's no money in that, and there's work that needs to be done, so ... back to work.

I don't know if it's an original thought but I came to the conclusion watching my son and his friends, that we retro-confabulate 'I love x" from "I notice I am unusually competent at x, and x is held in at least some esteem by my peers" - a lot.

I would say that is still true of me. I am never happier than when I am demonstrating mastery, even if it is of something really utterly useless, like juggling. If it's stand up, and it's making people laugh, that's even better, but it's knowing I am good at it that it the key.
