"The police are similarly likely to execute you for sport in any given interaction no matter your skin colour" is only part of the thing. "Crime rates" are derived from arrests and prosecutions, which for e.g. marijuana at least seem skewed. So are rates of e.g. car stops.

I'm not trying to explain any particular piece of data, only pointing out what exists. I'm trying to make the case that arguing against a reductive and stupid position with a reductive and incomplete argument falls firmly in the "reversed stupidity is not intelligence" category.

and what I'm arguing is "yes, burglary crime rate COULD be higher either because its truly higher or could be higher bc racist policing results in more arrests" HOWEVER murders are taken very seriously and get a TON of scrutiny, so we can take those results as proxy for reality

and when we see that murder cases, which have a huge transparency and are fact checked by strong defense plus third parties, show racial disparity at rates similar to other crimes, which should update our priors re how much racism pollutes the crime rate data
