3/ I know that the naive version of the "10,000 hour" rule isn't perfectly correct, but my general take on * writing fiction * coding * woodworking * blacksmithing (and probably all other arts / crafts) is that you need to work your ass off and throw 99% of it away for years.

Filled it with oak charcoal I made myself and after a couple days of experimenting barely managed to pound out a somewhat crooked chisel. I've been a machinist all my life, and the stuff I know nothing about eclipses what I do know by orders of magnitude. Even after a lifetime, we are only masters of a tiny domain.
