> I don't see why argument from ignorance 1) Mufflers add weight & size 2) Small engines are two strokes - they depend on the momentum of the exhaust gases to create a vacuum to scavenge exhaust products from the cylinder. Mufflers steal momentum. It is far from trivial. https://twitter.com/richardpart2/status/1271438333118423041 …

Electric Tools with removable batteries are also quasi-viable options in a general sense, weight/complexity/cost of *that* many battery packs being an open question. But "I have 3 battery packs for my suburban push mower" sorta works.

FWIW, I got my pops a DeWalt 60v string trimmer. It runs for 45 minutes on a charge, which is longer than he does. With the battery, it was a little more expensive than a fancy 4 stroke weedeater, but it does afford one indispensable advantage: I don't have to f*ck with it.

I don't have to figure out why it's leaking fuel every season, or replace carburetor primer bulbs, or mix fuel, or go out and start it for him whenever he wants to run it because he can't grok engines. The battery goes in, he pulls the trigger, it runs. My time is worth it.
