> I don't see why argument from ignorance 1) Mufflers add weight & size 2) Small engines are two strokes - they depend on the momentum of the exhaust gases to create a vacuum to scavenge exhaust products from the cylinder. Mufflers steal momentum. It is far from trivial. https://twitter.com/richardpart2/status/1271438333118423041 …

2/ sure, you can get rid of the "exhaust gas momentum tuning" by moving from 2 stroke to 4 stroke and using a power stroke to clear exhaust from cylinder ... but now you've doubled the weight that the worker has to carry for the same power output TANSTAAFL, friends

3/ agreed! I'm not dismissing it. Just saying that it's not a trivial thing to fix. Trade offs rule everything around me / us https://twitter.com/richardpart2/status/1271444022939262976 …

4/ "just" gasoline has an energy density of 45 MJ/kg lithium ion batteries have energy density of 0.5 MJ/kg if my handheld gas powered weed whacker has a 1/4 gal tank (2lbs fuel), your battery version has to have a 180 lb battery https://twitter.com/dronemissile/status/1271485873100599296 …
