People don’t see healthcare and education is optional. education is how to ensure that they & their children will have success &$ They think that if they don’t have health care they’re going to get cancer and die. People are not at all rational w/these kind of things

it strikes me that the cheapest house you can buy is now more expensive and much nicer, ofc., but people now don't have the option of trading financial for personal hardship in that domain don't know how much of a real effect this has

More broadly, I'd guess a lot of people are now less financially secure than their 70s equivalents, but it's due to buying and having a lot more stuff this may be a problem, but it's not straightforwardly a "stuff is too expensive" problem
