The one type of pod they should have is hotels in New York and San Francisco like Tokyo. Probably blocked by industry unions and zoning laws.

They're slowly getting closer (at about a 40% discount over normal hotels) with the Pod chain. Very Acela, but I've used them as a staging point for coaster/sportsball game combo weekends before. https://www.thepodhotel.com/

Living in the middle of nowhere is insanely expensive, I have no idea what they're on about. The best part of the pod lifestyle is the enormous amount of money they have pay me to make me put up with the pod coupled with the complete lack of yardwork.

By your standards my apartment probably counts as a pod, certainly. Breakfast involved bacon, eggs and cheese nonetheless.
