The National Guard didn't kill protesters, they killed bystanders. National Guard - deployed after leftists burned down the ROTC building and attacked firemen - shot into the air to disperse a crowd of radicals that had been chasing them w poles & had them backed against a fence https://twitter.com/PeterRQuinones/status/1257268031396470785 …

2/ but of course someone with the bio "Managing Editor @ http://libertarianinstitute.org " doesn't know this, doesn't research this, just lazily RTs a meme. Yes, the American state is bad. ...but communist revolutionaries who supported the Viet Cong are worse. Read a G-d damned book

3/ I may be a libertarian, but that doesn't mean that I can't hate most libertarians for being ignorant children.

4/ I did a deep dive on the topic c. 1990, reading several books which included interviews of students, guardsmen, etc. I don't recall the titles, sorry. Anyway, it would have been better if guardsmen HAD aimed at the Viet Cong sympathizers. >>> https://twitter.com/enginoire1/status/1257641795535745024 …

5/ My research paper on the subject ended with the conclusion "the guardsmen fired 67 shots and only achieved 4 KIA of enemy combatants; this reflects a leadership failure to provide marksmanship training and motivation".

6/ wikipedia has a map showing how the guardsmen retreated for hundreds if not thousands of feet, pursued by viet cong sympathizers who were stabbing at them with flag poles only when backed against a fence did they fire in self defensepic.twitter.com/ZaCqym6e1R

Replying to @MorlockP
FWIW, this diagram shows the Guard *near* a fence but in no way backed up against it. Either they aren't positioned as shown, or there was a fence behind them but not in the diagram, or they weren't backed against a fence.
