2/ Regulation, on AVERAGE, is bad. Regulation. AT THE MARGIN, is bad. This doesn't mean that all regulations are bad, of course. Still, I think that if we just killed 10% of regulations AT RANDOM, we'd do a world of good.

3/ The ideal of regulation is coverage of two areas: - stopping negative externalities - solving coordination problems I find it amusing that the "gov lockdown is fascism" crowd is protesting against the absolute best case scenario for government action.

I believe the knock-on effect of bad regulation is that it tends never to be removed (that would be admitting fault), but rather papered over by more regulation (often also bad). Then, repealing later bad regulation exposes people to the effects of the bad regulation it "fixed".

When I was younger, I had the high-minded notion that Congress should be kept busy by spending 90% of its time reviewing the efficacy of old laws and regulations, throwing out the bad ones, and condensing the good ones into simpler bills. Now I just want a meteor to fall on DC.
