Technically true, but in kitchen situations where drops of water are often flying around, regreasing/oiling is in order or the fucker will rust.

Depends on the kind of soap. Bases aren't good for cast iron even briefly, but lye soaps are way out of fashion so unless you make your own or try to use oven cleaner it doesn't matter much anymore.

I just use plain old dish soap. Mild on everything and cleans up grease like a charm.
