In Poland we dont even have graduation, in high school you just have last day of class that most people skip since the attendance doesn’t matter, in college you just have all summer to pick up the papers

My mom was denied walking due to being married to my dad before graduation. It still stings over 50 years later. She was a straight A student. Some folks care.

my girls are very disappointed that they won't get to do the "graduation" celebration that our school does for fifth-graders leaving elementary school the PTO is planning an alternate thing next year (assuming it starts again) where the kids can come back for a day to celebrate

I didn't bother with graduation ceremony for either degree. After the BS I did have a private ceremony. Invited the ROTC faculty to dinner with my family and was sworn in as an officer. Much more fun than a mass production event.

not sure I knew you were in ROTC ! ...but sounds VAGUELY familiar, so perhaps I heard once before?

I skipped both hs and college graduations, too. I was and still am glad I did.

I'd argue its mostly for the parents. Get that sense of pride going.
