/ homesteader / prepper friend is concerned about supply chain breakdowns this fall, and is accelerating his plans to plant crops to feed himself and his family I think the risk is low ... but he's got me thinking. Just called the farm store - they've got tons of potatoes

/ red area is "downhill patch" (downhill from garden and vineyard). It's about 1/5 acre Maybe plant with 1/3 pumpkins, 1/3 potatoes, 1/3 whatever

/ also have few lbs of corn seed on hand, but not going to plant it out in the open - the deer will destroy it (learned that the hard way) may plant corn inside the 0.2 acre pig pin as an experiment - nicely fenced in harvest, if things work well, will be >>> what we can eatpic.twitter.com/kAufXkHj4L

/ so mass planting is * partially to feed to livestock * partially an experiment * partially research for homesteading book * partially prepping -if supply chains DO break down, we can figure out storage techniques on the fly

Yes, higher ratios than 1:4 not only possible but usual. Several ways to go about. You can plant section of potato after letting the cuts cure. Or even just pull-sprouts, which reduce spread of tuber-borne disease, tho then you have to nurse the sprouts.
