2/ $20 for a 50 lb bag in the past I've gotten a 4:1 yield ratio (plant 1 lb, get 4 lbs out) should be able to do 10:1, tho, if I pay attention might buy a few sacks and plant in downhill patch

4/ also have few lbs of corn seed on hand, but not going to plant it out in the open - the deer will destroy it (learned that the hard way) may plant corn inside the 0.2 acre pig pin as an experiment - nicely fenced in harvest, if things work well, will be >>> what we can eatpic.twitter.com/kAufXkHj4L

5/ so mass planting is * partially to feed to livestock * partially an experiment * partially research for homesteading book * partially prepping -if supply chains DO break down, we can figure out storage techniques on the fly

Agreed that the risk of famine is negligible, but the cost of putting in some "insurance" is also very low if you have some land. Also, the risk of fruit & veg shortages is much higher. No one will starve without strawberries or melons, but it'd be very nice to have your own.
