there's something very very interesting hiding in that graph Look at the left one, age 45 @ 1996. Note that that cohort advances down and to the right. They form the bottom edge of the yellow region. The slope is clear. Something about being born > 1950. Thoughts?

Older people didn't have time to sit on their asses and ponder existence because they had proper jobs & decent standard of living, communities etc so less likely to suffer alienation. They don't feel suicidal now because they thing tf I grew up when I did.

Older people got drafted to fight WW2 and Korea. Oh. Great society programs starting in 1965. A lesser number of boomers got drafted for Vietnam. Draft stopped in 1972. All sorts of stuff

Note concentration of slight higher suicides early 90's among the degree folk in older age. That be the hippies.
