prediction: every institution that we hoped was still okay — not these past couple of weeks but past couple of years — every org that we uneasily crossed our fingers and prayed was functioning up to snuff? simply isn't https://t.co/R9z980Wc9r

meh I was there the government tried to respond to AIDS, and gay activists were outraged - they fought against closing the gay bathhouses, against any education that was aimed at high risk groups, etc. the PC result was that intervention was concentrated in hetero demographics

oh, I remember ACT-UP they protested on campus all the time they were very upset at the idea that AIDS might have anything to do with high risk activities, attacked anyone who said that as "homophobic" and vandalized a lot of buildings very productive

in the best case, they were founded to fight the FDA ...but all organizations mutate, and what ACT-UP **actually** did was (a) engage in fun rebellious shit like spray painting graffit (b) chanting ego-defense slogans "it's not anything WE'RE doing ; it's what YOU'RE not doing"

I'm reminded of Rev's "if the group that is 'oppressing' you didn't exist, would you be better of? if not, consider that you're not oppressed, you're just !@# holes". Gays in ACT-UP were oppressed, apparently by ... everyone ? For ... reasons ?
