Moved 50% of assets out of stocks before the downturn, now kicking myself for not doing 100%. Thought at the time, if you're gonna move, move, but overthought and hedged.

Wrong. Or at least, incomplete analysis. For your (entirely sensible) plan to work, you not only need to get out before the downturn, you need to get back in before the rally. Being hedged against messing up the *latter* may yet turn out to've been well worthwhile.
