seems like people rent Zipcar vans but use real movers most often, not so many "friends with a truck" and you're often gonna have stairs on one or both ends of the move. I have movers I've used 3x, found them on a bidding site, surprisingly not expensive http://citymove.com/

not so many u-haul places like in suburbs and the time I had one it was not so cheap, also very hard to drive and park whereas movers are totally cool with it
