People forget the fuel part too easily. Generators, snowblowers, chainsaws, all very helpful if it's a bad storm.. useless without fuel.. I'd advise a gas/propane Genny, based on the cheaper cost of propane, but also the potential use of propane for heating/cooking.

When Storm Desmond hit us in 2015, it knocked out the power - and closed two of the three supermarkets in town (fortunately, Booths had thought to keep a generator on hand), as well as the ATMs. It also took out the mobile phone network. But not the landlines.
