2/ Re this "wood (naked is better) naturally regulates the indoor humidity" Any woodworker will tell you that if you bring "naked" wood inside, the wood acclimates to the indoor environment. If the wood is green, it sheds humidity. If it's kiln dried, it dries out the air.

3/ Yes, in an extremely narrow and technical sense, more exposed wood can act as a buffer which lowers the amplitude of indoor humidity swings. BUT ... this effect is INSANELY minimal. Wood is very very slow to gain / lose moisture. Rule of thumb is >>>

4/ a board takes 1 year + 1 year per inch of thickness (so 2" thick board = 3 years) to acclimate to its environment. One might as well say that a coffee mug with 1/4" of water in it helps humidify a room. Technically true! Also totally useless.

6/ this is not quite right viruses do not "love dry air" viruses love cracks in nasal passages and dried out mucus, which occur when people are in dry environmentshttps://twitter.com/wrathofgnon/status/1230381958770778112 …

7/ WoG's point starts w a 20% correct observation ("it's better to not have really dry indoor air"), then heads off in a crazy / factually wrong direction that "exposed wood prevents viruses". I like oak myself, that's what's in my bedroom. How 'bout you Jimmie, you an oak man?

9/ Well, your uncle Marsellus will buy you a humidifier. Because unlike an oak bedroom set, that will actually raise the humidity in your house.

I love
@wrathofgnon 's aesthetics but he has the same tendency to dismiss the existence of trade offs in the same way that progs say that eugenics "can't work". There is a real cost to avoiding modern building materials / structures - one that's usually worth it - but a costThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Regulated humidity environments ftw But really I think I'm going to see if I can at least get proper humidifiers for any lab I work in now
