I don't have any personal experience with this one, but Dyson makes a humidifier, and all the other products of theirs I've used are simply delightful. https://www.dyson.com/air-treatment/dyson-humidifier-overview.html …

I've been very happy running a pair of these modestly priced humidifiers for my house: https://amzn.to/2HssQVU Sadly, they appear to be unavailable. This looks like a good replacement: https://amzn.to/38yKjrC I prefer the 6L capacity so I don't have to fill it as much.

You'll probably want to get these to keep an eye on how the humidifier is doing: https://amzn.to/2UY6jbx

Unless you use distilled water, I don’t think you can avoid what you describe. Probably better to dry out and clean once in awhile and/or buy new ones every few years and toss the old.

Boneco S450 is a steam humidifier for large rooms. We love it. For whole house, definitely add a steam humidifier to HVAC

I use this in my guitar room. It’s only OK. It’s mostly plastic, the filter gets changed often (which is messy). This time of year in the PNW, I’m refilling it every 4 or 5 days in a 17X13 room. Fairly quiet on lower settings. https://www.amazon.com/EP9-800-Whole-House-Pedestal-Style-Evaporative/dp/B00I9YFXSS …
