I suppose I just feel differently as someone whose been on their own for 3 years I don't have anyone else to wake me up and so feel others should be able to do the same, but I do understand your point.

Hence my view that marriage is not 50/50, it’s 100/100: each should be ready, willing, & able to do EVERYTHING without complaint, because that’s what the family unit needs; each does this out of commitment, serving the other, and between both striving for 100/0 reach ~50/50.

The practical point is redundancy: if one is abruptly out of commission (a la “hit by a bus”) the other should be able to carry/mitigate the load. The relationship point is an act of love: serve the other into making them a better person; don’t confuse “tough love” with “f ‘em”.
