/ I was down in the basement pantry re-arranging the chest freezers yesterday, and was trying to guess how much pork we have. Around 600 lbs, I think. Soon to be augmented with about the same of beef. And then add in something like 30 gallons of pressure canned soup, etc >

/ plus maybe a year's supply of beans, rice, and other dry goods. I suspect we could live ~ 2 years in quarantine, if the electricity stayed on. Another few months if we butchered the sheep herd. Another few months beyond that with a serious gardening push.

/ yes, PTO driven off of the tractor, plus a bank of lead acid batteries diesel would grow scarce in SHTF, so if things got bad I'd likely empty the freezer in stages and either dry meat (in the dehydrator) or layer in salthttps://twitter.com/Bobthewelding1/status/1221925092948684801 …

/ I've done a fair bit of research on bio-diesel (to make sure that my zombie-welding-procedural short story series "Caterpillar" is accurate) Biodiesel requires fryer oil, which might not be in great supply post SHTF. Running pure veg oil is easier >https://twitter.com/HeavySig/status/1221927042641326080 …

/ But now you're proposing to grow your own corn / rapeseed / whatever, and also press oil from it. Wood gasification seems far easier.
