I agree that execution matters more than just raw potential, but I disagree with the metric "if you haven't heard of them they're failures". If there's a 150 guy with a good marriage, three kids, a house, a boat, a retirement account, and I've never heard of him...has he failed?https://twitter.com/Sams_Antics/status/1221699199668039680 …

3/ I disagree strongly with this. IQ largely is orthogonal to utility function.https://twitter.com/tom_username_/status/1221864691695263744 …

We're in a world where if you aren't "slaying dragons" you aren't maximizing your potential (you'll even hear this on Sundays) but sometimes doing the above is exactly the example the world needs. Just do it with all your might (which is biblical)

Right. I'm not arguing validity of flavors of dreams. It's all subjective. They are big to the person who has them. But I think we all know people who want a big bite out of life. Others, just as talented, who just want an appetizer. Maybe instead of IQ, a "Passion Quotient"?

I'm still disagreeing with you. Wife, kids, house strikes me as large a bite as "write a book and give TED talks".

what makes them small is they're classic pedestrian pursuits 'sold to the lodge workers' as difficult achievements, but are sort of requirements for life. it's saying 'i choose not to run' is a valid sign of smarts.

This is basically my self-image. I like to think I’m significantly above average intelligence, and I’m living my dream of a steady well-paying job that allows me flexibility to focus on my family, church, and hobbies.

Fame would be massively inconvenient on a personal level, but would also require a level of job-commitment that means I wouldn’t be able to help run our church’s little school, or take time to teach my son’s class science lessons every Friday.
