Removing context, even context which undermines your critique, may be necessary due to limitations of the medium. But you were making a critique, using quotes without context. Blasting someone for correctly pointing that out is off your usual standards.

It might help to see that they weren't being accusatory, nor showing "proof of foul play". They were refuting your critique.
