This is so interesting to me (which means it’s definitely one of my failure modes)—what drives implicit dislike of tacit social norm analysis? It feels like either an innate or socially learned response; seems most people don’t like it without analyzing why they don’t like ithttps://twitter.com/selentelechia/status/1219870914789040129 …

I feel like you can have genuine social interactions and still step back and observe the methods and mechanics of them... is this not just mindfulness? Being aware of why and how you do what you do and how it makes you feel is what people in the meditation space push you to do

I think of myself as a fun, spontaneous, fairly warm and chatty person when I’m not in competitive mode I’m reading the responses in the thread and people think it’s the “dehumanization” required of transactional social analysis that’s the turn off

Why is recognizing systems and patterns inherently dehumanizing though? I guess it’s hard to imagine how this works if you don’t use something as blunt as a conversational flow chart but still observe people’s aims and motivations

Also if that’s the case, it means learning more about human nature and then TALKING about it in analytical terms will inherently reduce your ability to relate to people? Grim. How to un-pill yourself? Curious about definitions of humanization and dehumanization here

many cultures (Viking, Germanic tribes, Japanese salaryman) make heavy drinking part of their bonding rituals / deliberation process. this is arguably because it strips pretense and reveals deeper motivations spergs being analytical is the opposite: putting calculation first

if what I REALLY want is for you to get drunk & admit that, yes, "I love you like a brother, man, I'd do anything for you, buddy!!!!" so that I can trust you more deeply, then you being a sperg and saying "I will do anything for you ...up to a value of $120 or perhaps $123" = bad
