At the end of the day, it's impossible for a small farmer to compete on price with mass-produced meats or other farmed goods. Just like it's impossible for someone to hand-make shoes and compete with Chinese manufacture. You have to find your niche that will pay the premium.

All the "soak the rich!" sociopolitical rhetoric fails to note how many good jobs are created by people who can afford to buy what nobody else can. Sure, a $1M watch is stupid/gratuitous - but the market employs 100 talented artisans/mgrs/marketers who together make 10 per year.

Without elite clientele, said artisans/mgrs/marketers - like farmers - provide commodity services, for which the market is already saturated.
