seriously though, "ressentiment" is a bad term for a specific type / sociological concept of resentment. I am open to recommendations of better or more intuitive terms!

>"ressentiment" isn't a distinct English word; it's just "resentment" Nonsense. "Resentment" is a common word in standard English that means a feeling of indignant displeasure at something seen as a wrong. "Ressentiment" is a term of art from philosophy and so means nothing.

I assume the word came to England with William the Conqueror, and so it is we who are pronouncing it wrong. There is probably a good meaty Saxon word for the same emotion, now lost.
