Also, at a certain point, it helps you build organizations (including but not limited to for-profit and nonprofit businesses) to accomplish broader goals, to influence politics & social conversations, etc. Revealed preferences show these matter a lot to the deep-pocketed.

I know if I had a couple hundred million dollars I'd be seriously investigating space mining and development (either starting a business or buying into an existing one), because it's so interesting and critical to humanity's future.
