2/ Right now I'm googling each airplane to find seat pitch and width, and that's going fine, but maybe there's some Very Smart Tool that everyone else knows about that can tell me at a glance if a 707 through Atlanta is better or worse than a MD-88 through LaGuardia ?

3/ akshually, I know LaGuardia and ATL, and I'm choosing the latter, no question. But I'm still looking for a general tool that the Smart Folks use.

The sites pull from the same inventory. I prefer Kayak as having better calendar comparison. Absent lounge access, Twitter. SeatGuru.

Re flights, Google Flights is underrated, though it excludes a few airlines e.g. Southwest. Re planes, bear in mind different airlines configure the same model differently, so seat pitch etc. vary by carrier as well as plane.

If you are going to be flying with any regularity, it is best to lock in on one airline and get miles and status. Delta bumps my fiancee up to at least comfort if not first class 90% of her flights.
