1/ I remember in college a few people (mostly girls, but a few guys) strutting around, using phrases like "as an adult", and I always shook my head. You have ZERO responsibilities. You're not an adult. I felt a bit like an adult when I had a mortgage I had to pay every month.https://twitter.com/eigenrobot/status/1209127746514776065 …

3/ This is what the bug / pod people get so terribly wrong. * <submissive chimp grin> "look at my new Funko-pop!" * <soy face> "I order off the secret menu at the pop up restaurant" * <eyebrows raised> "why do people stop drinking with friends when they have children? LAME!"

https://www.meta-nomad.net/adulting-responsibility-collapse/ … When people use the word 'adult' as a verb, they're more than likely a child. Adulting is LARPing at life. Real responsibility leaves no time for quirky signalling.

I've had a hard time explaining why I hate the term/concept of 'adulting.' I think that's it. "Adulting" is going through the motions, mostly imitation, of handling 'important' responsibilities. And expecting praise for it. Adulthood is accepting the responsibility.
